No more boring naming routines when creating target image files. With the newest TaskForce firmware update, use highly customizable and flexible templates instead. Set up a template once, and then create complex subfolder paths and file names with a couple of clicks, according to your internal naming conventions. Read on to see how this long-awaited feature works.<\/p>\n<p>Say, you\u2019re imaging your evidence device to a file on a network server or storage drive, connected to the TaskForce. Before, it was time-consuming to enter a path and name for each file individually, not to mention repeating case details, such as case number, investigator name, or location. And if you\u2019re splitting image files into segments of predefined size, the target folder would soon become cluttered.<\/p>\n<p>Now you can streamline the naming process and save time thanks to naming templates.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/target-file-templates-03-adding-template-aff4.png\" alt=\"Adding a template for a target image file name.\" width=\"2736\" height=\"1824\" class=\"atola-shadow aligncenter wp-image-7562 size-full\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For that feature, we\u2019ve redesigned the <strong>Select target devices<\/strong> panel. Now it is split into two tabs: <strong>Files<\/strong> and <strong>Drives<\/strong>. When you click <strong>Add template<\/strong> on the Files tab, a configuration dialog appears.<\/p>\n<p><span>Here you can select a target folder and customize a subfolder path and file name using variables, as your naming conventions require:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">year,<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">month,<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">day,<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">current time,<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">case ID,<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">drive model,<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">drive serial number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/templates-1200px-72dpi-kg-high-wu-atkinson-01-200-frames.gif\" alt=\"Creating a template for a target file in Atola TaskForce.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7563\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adding a forward slash (\/) in the Subfolder path field creates a nested subfolder.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, for your template, you can also specify the target file type, hash type, compression method, and enter repeating image file metadata, such as case ID or investigator name.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/target-file-templates-04-image-file-metadata.png\" alt=\"Automatically fill in repeating image file metadata, such as case ID or investigator name.\" width=\"2736\" height=\"1824\" class=\"atola-shadow aligncenter wp-image-7564 size-full\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The real magic happens when you click on a target file template. It instantly creates a folder with all the dynamic subfolders you need, as well as a properly named image file.<\/p>\n<p>It works for both physical and logical imaging tasks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/target-file-templates-07-file-name-created.png\" alt=\"A target file created using a template in Atola TaskForce.\" width=\"2736\" height=\"1824\" class=\"atola-shadow aligncenter wp-image-7565 size-full\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>TaskForce 2024.9 Changelog<\/h2>\n<h3>New Features<\/h3>\n<p>Target file templates in physical and logical imaging. Create reusable templates that which help the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">dynamically create destination folders based on date or other info<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">filename generation according to your naming convention<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">enter the same file\/case details for many images<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Improved user experience when imaging to files.
