Atola has released the newest firmware for TaskForce introducing Logical Imaging as the update&#8217;s key feature. The 2022.4 firmware also includes these major enhancements:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>improvements to the RAID autodetection module<\/li>\r\n<li>NVMe drive diagnostics<\/li>\r\n<li>50% increase in the speed of SHA hash calculation<\/li>\r\n<li>in-depth FAT32\/16 filesystem support<\/li>\r\n<li>new Date\/Time, &#8216;Add case&#8217; button, printing settings<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Logical imaging<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Atola TaskForce customers have been asking about it a lot. Here are just a few requests:<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>&#8220;We would want to be able to verify with the client the number of successful files recovered, preferably by extension (.JPG, PDF, DOC, ETC).&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;I need to image XFS files because Windows doesn&#8217;t see XFS partitions.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;Our first step is selecting and imaging all document files, including those stored in Zips.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;Our unit has a scenario and was wondering if it would be possible to implement for the TaskForce? We have two active investigations (homicide and child pornography) that resulted in large seizures (approx. 75+ devices for each case). I was wondering if it\u2019s possible to build in a file explorer into the TaskForce software? We are looking at triaging the devices and if files have not been accessed within the past two years they will be omitted from the analysis.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Here is our answer!\u00a0 Meet the <strong>Logical<\/strong> icon in the left sidebar. It is a new core function of the product.<\/p>\r\n<p>TaskForce allows launching 12 and more simultaneous logical <a href=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/products\/tf1\/simultaneous-imaging.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">imaging sessions<\/a>. It turns TaskForce into the most effective triage and logical data acquisition system ever.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Logical-Imaging-2.png\" alt=\"Logical imaging\" class=\"atola-shadow alignnone wp-image-6400 size-full\" width=\"1914\" height=\"942\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>When you think how much time you can save by imaging only the required data as opposed to a whole drive, this new functionality makes the system even more effective. The smart include\/exclude filters simplify and speed up the process of the files\/folders subset selection.<\/p>\r\n<p>The logical imaging module supports all types of evidence sources accessible by TaskForce:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>SATA, SAS, NVMe, USB, IDE drives<\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/products\/taskforce\/forensic-raid-image.html\">assembled RAID arrays<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li>Macbook drives<\/li>\r\n<li>Raw\/E01\/AFF4 image files located on a network or a storage drive plugged into TaskForce<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>2022.4 firmware update enables selecting L01 image file as a destination. L01 compression is already built-in.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/l01-image-format.jpg\" alt=\"L01 image format\" class=\"atola-shadow alignnone wp-image-6476 \" width=\"480\" height=\"620\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>What if there are too many files to copy and you can&#8217;t finish the job now?<\/p>\r\n<p>We designed the Pause\/Resume feature in line with how it works in the physical imaging engine. So it is easy to:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Pause logical data acquisition<\/li>\r\n<li>Turn off the TaskForce<\/li>\r\n<li>Power it on later<\/li>\r\n<li>Resume the logical imaging session exactly from the very &#8220;pause&#8221; moment<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p>or<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Pause logical data acquisition<\/li>\r\n<li>Export the case<\/li>\r\n<li>Transfer the source drive and the exported case to a different location that has another TaskForce<\/li>\r\n<li>Import the case\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Resume the logical imaging session<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/logical-imaging-paused.jpg\" alt=\"Logical imaging at pause\" class=\"atola-shadow  alignnone wp-image-6478 size-full\" width=\"2255\" height=\"1288\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h3>NVMe diagnostics, RAID, new system settings, etc.<\/h3>\r\n<p>Let&#8217;s briefly look at other significant features arriving with the 2022.4 firmware update.<\/p>\r\n<h5>NVMe diagnostics<\/h5>\r\n<p>The diagnostic module has been enhanced with a testing controller checking firmware and data of NVMe drives. The 3rd stage is only launched when stage 2 fails to detect RAID configuration. Stage 3 introduces an alternative heuristic approach of identifying a suitable configuration.
