This new hardware unit allows you to image NVMe drives using <a href=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/products\/insight\/manual\/attach-extensions.html\">M.2 SSD extension module<\/a> at high speeds and avoid shutting the system to replace the drive in the extension module.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/m2-ext-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5975\" width=\"1188\" height=\"731\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fast imaging of NVMe drives<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Because NVMe drives are the fastest storage devices out there, the <a href=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/products\/insight\/disk-duplication.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">imaging speed<\/a> is usually limited by the target used during this session.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If you use an SSD drive as a target, your imaging will run at up to 500 MB\/sec.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1111\" height=\"740\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/nvme-imaging-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5987\" \/>\r\n<figcaption><em>Imaging to an SSD target drive<\/em><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But when you image to an NVMe drive installed on your host PC which supports a 10Gbit Ethernet connection, you will see much higher imaging rates.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large atola-shadow\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1111\" height=\"776\" src=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/665.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5966\" \/>\r\n<figcaption><em>Imaging to the host PC <\/em><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hot plug of NVMe drives<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The previous generation of DiskSense hardware units was developed way before NVMe drives appeared. Therefore the old DiskSense had limited support of such drives.
