This extension provides Insight users with the capability to image, calculate hash and perform other forensically sound operations on all generations of MacBooks.<\/p>\n<p>This guide will explain how to connect a MacBook to Insight using Thunderbolt extension.<\/p>\n<h3>Extension and cables<\/h3>\n<p>Thunderbolt extension enables Insight to operate on MacBooks with these interfaces: FireWire, Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3 (2016 &#8211; 2017 models). There is no need to remove the SSD, Thunderbolt extension allows connecting the whole Apple laptop to Insight.<\/p>\n<p>The extension module comes with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (by Apple)<\/li>\n<li>Thunderbolt 2 to FireWire adapter (by Apple)<\/li>\n<li>FireWire cable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1864 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.atola.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/cables-adapters-1024x536.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/cables-adapters-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/cables-adapters-150x79.jpg 150w, https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/cables-adapters-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atola.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/cables-adapters-768x402.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Connecting MacBook to DiskSense unit<\/h3>\n<p>1. Connect MacBook to DiskSense unit with the help of Thunderbolt extension and the FireWire cable (<strong>NB<\/strong>\u00a0Both MacBook and DiskSense have to be turned off). Use the adapters to connect to the MacBooks with Thunderbolt 2 or Thunderbolt 3 interface.<\/p>\n<p>2. Start DiskSense unit and launch Atola Insight Forensic on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>3. Boot the MacBook in Target Disk Mode. To do that, start it up while holding down the T key. Select <em>Identify device<\/em> option in the pop-up window.<\/p>\n<p>5.
